Coronavirus – Campus Updates and Text Alerts

At Home, Online, With You

We have converted many of our in-person courses to an accessible online, video-based format that will allow you to get the education you need while maintaining the social distance that is so vital to our response to COVID-19.

We’ve produced award-winning online education for nearly 20 years, and our online classes give you a flexible, engaging and high-quality learning experience that you can access anywhere. You’ll have one-on-one access to your instructor and frequent interactions and networking opportunities with classmates.

If you're working remotely (like we are), this is the perfect opportunity to update your job skills and advance your career.

Update, March 17: In accordance with the latest guidance from UC Davis, we are transitioning all of our classroom-based spring classes - with the exception of a select few hands-on lab courses - to online instruction.

Current students and instructors: Our program coordinators will continue to reach out to you with updated instructions and guidance specific to your course, so please check your email.

We understand that this is an unexpected change and some of you may not be familiar with online learning. Rest assured, we will do everything possible to support you during this transition. UC Davis Continuing and Professional Education has produced award-winning online education for nearly 20 years, and our web and video-based courses will provide you with a flexible, engaging and high-quality learning experience.

To aid in this transition, we’ve built an Online Student Resources page with tutorials, tips and guidelines designed to create a successful online learning experience.

Starting today, we have also closed the face-to-face Student Services counter at our 1333 Research Park Drive facility in Davis but remain committed to serving you via email, over the phone at (530) 757-8777 and through our website. If you have any questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to reach out.

Update, March 13: We are following the guidance from campus in our response to the coronavirus with regard to academic instruction.

We are currently evaluating our classroom-based programs and are transitioning appropriate courses to an online format. Program coordinators will reach out with specific instructions for students whose classes are moved online. Our Online Student Resources page offers tutorials, tips and guidelines designed to create a successful online learning experience.

For courses that remain in the classroom, we’re continuing to expand sanitation procedures and have ordered “Sanitation Stations” with antibacterial foam, tissues and masks for all of our facilities.

Options for Students (Online and Classroom) Impacted by COVID-19

We understand that, as a result of COVID-19, students may face circumstances that make it difficult to focus on studies (personal sickness, assisting ill family members, taking care of children whose school or daycare is closed, etc.).

In this unprecedented situation, UC Davis has authorized a number of options to help students who are dealing with these kinds of issues, including alternative assignments, extended due dates and "incomplete" grades.

Students who are experiencing personal hardships and would like to explore one of these options should contact their instructor. Other questions may be emailed to, or contact us by phone at (530) 757-8777.

Update, March 9: Given the evolving nature of the coronavirus situation, we are increasing our efforts to sanitize our facilities, plan for a range of scenarios and communicate with our students.

Enhanced Safety Precautions

To ensure our classrooms are as sterile as possible, we’ve instituted new sanitation procedures, including:

  • Increasing cleaning frequency of entryway doors, touch screen directories, door handles, stairway rails, elevators, restrooms and all common areas
  • Sanitizing all tables, instructor keyboards and projection display panels multiple times a day
  • Ensuring all restroom soap dispensers and hand sanitizer machines full

Plan B for Classroom-Based Courses

We are preparing – if necessary – to temporarily transition classroom-based instruction to an online environment.

This is a precautionary measure only, and we are not planning to cancel or transition any classes to online at this time. If this situation becomes necessary, we’ll provide tutorials and resources to ensure your online learning experience is as positive and productive as your classroom-based instruction.

Sign up for text alerts to receive the latest information about potential class cancellations, emergency precautions or other updates resulting from the coronavirus.

We are not planning to cancel any classes at this time. If the situation changes, we will send alerts out through the UC Davis "WarnMe" system.

To sign up for text alerts, simply text "CPEAlerts" to 67283.

Information will also be shared on our website, social media channels and through our instructors, but the "WarnMe" system is, by far, the most convenient and effective way to ensure you have the latest information. We highly encourage you to sign up for these alerts.

The UC Davis "WarnMe" system will only be used to communicate emergency information that may impact your Continuing and Professional Education classes.

For more information or to sign up for campus-wide text alerts, visit the UC Davis "WarnMe" system web page.
