NEW! Mechanical Vineyard Management

This course covers the anatomy of the grapevine, including trellis types and how best to prepare a vineyard for mechanical management. Learn how to set up mechanical pruners, shoot thinners and leaf removers for efficient production, as well as how to adjust and calibrate speed and efficiency of mechanical harvesters. Working parts of a mechanical harvester will also be discussed.

Section Notes

Students will be at the Oakville Field Station all day. There will be field demonstrations all day regardless of weather conditions. Students should dress in weather appropriate clothing. Field work appropriate footwear is encouraged. Out of consideration to other students observing the demonstrations, umbrellas are discouraged. We would also suggest that students wear a hat and sunscreen. Please be advised, there will be a considerable amount of standing for long periods while students are in the field.
