Resiliency 101: An Introduction to the Principles of Resilience Planning

This course will examine the recent history of natural disasters impacting our state and the nation, the cause and effect that a changing climate has on these events, and practical, resilient planning solutions that should be considered—both now and in the future. Through a combination of pre-recorded lectures, case study reviews and live discussions with Q&A, you will learn how specific land use practices can both exacerbate and prevent natural disasters. At the conclusion of this course, you will possess a better understanding of the big-picture issues facing your community and will have a set of tools for integrating resilient land use practices into your work. This course is designed for land use planners, resource managers, regulatory experts and related professionals in both the public and private sectors.

This is an online, remote learning course, which consists of content and curriculum that is taught with pre-recorded and real time lectures, in addition to real-time lecture/Q&A sessions with the instructors. Pre-recorded lectures and live sessions are accessed via our Canvas learning system and Zoom. 

This course is open January 17 - January 20, with a live session on January 20 9:00 AM-12:00 PM PT. 

Attendance of the live session is mandatory to receive credit for this course. 

We allow registration through the 12:00 PM PST (noon) on the first day of the course. We cannot extend course access beyond 11:59 PM on 1/20, so students pursuing a late enrollment acknowledge that they will have less time to complete the materials.
