Air Pollution: Fundamentals and Emerging Issues

This course will begin with an overview of the fundamentals of air pollution, including gaseous pollutants and particulate matter. Discussions will focus on addressing basic questions, like: “What is it?,” “Where does it come from?,” “How is it formed and emitted?,” and “Why do we care?” Join Dr. Keith Bein from the UC Davis Air Quality Research Center for an in-depth look at current research covering emerging issues of concern on the health effects of air pollution. For example, experiments aimed at understanding the effects of exposure to traffic-related air pollution on neurodevelopmental disorders like Alzheimer’s Disease and Autism Spectrum Disorder will be discussed. Climate-change driven issues will be considered as well, such as next generation wildfires—firestorms at the urban-wildland interface.
