Explore U.S. history from the late-19th century through consideration of the movement of people into and out of cities. As such, we will discuss the tensions between agrarian values and those of city dwellers and their manifestation in debates over the rights of individuals versus the interests of society at large. We’ll also consider how people thought about what constituted urban problems and how to solve them, and the relationship between cities and suburbs.
