The Amusing Connection between Robert Louis Stevenson and John Steinbeck

Though they were born almost 50 years apart and never met each other, they share something in common, which Steinbeck wrote about in a charming short story titled, “When Edith McGullicuddy Met Robert Louis Stevenson.” In this two-day class we will read the story and discuss the Monterey settings where both writers spent their time and their literary talents. Marcy will also provide a guide to the several literary “shrines” in Northern California—most of them a day-trip away—where you can go to pay homage to your favorite writers.
