Are We Alone in the Universe?

“Are we alone in the Universe?" is one of the most profound questions we can ask about ourselves. Gain a better appreciation of our understanding of this question using a conceptual framework that sets out what we need to know to address the question. That framework provides a context for our exploration of other planets, our search for stars with exoplanets and our monitoring of signals from outer space. We will also discuss how we should respond to any indications that someone or something is out there. No formal scientific background is needed. There will be time at the end of the session for open discussion. Spoiler Alert: the course will not actually provide an answer to the question posed in the title.
