Baseball in the Spotlight

It’s baseball season once again, and Al and Marcy have been training all winter to bring you a unique viewpoint on the history of America’s favorite sport. By showing portions of Ken Burns’ brilliant PBS series, specifically Fourth Inning: 1920–1930: A decade of major transformation in major league baseball after the gambling scandal of 1919 (Black Sox) and Eighth Inning: 1960-1970: A foundational decade because of the introduction of television, race changes, new stadiums, labor union and expansion. The documentary selections will be interspersed with two feature films starring Kevin Costner depicting the emotional pull baseball has on all of us: Field of Dreams and For Love of the Game. Al is a wealth of information on this topic and never disappoints when answering questions about it. Marcy stays in the background as his “manager.”
