A Californian Pomological Paradox: California is a Virtual Paradise for Fruit and Nut Tree Crop Production but Why Are So Many Fruit Farmers Disappearing?

This class will review the contribution of deciduous fruit and nuts crops to California’s agricultural productivity and the reasons why California is the most ideal spot in the world for the production these crops. We will also discuss historical trends in California fruit and nut crops production and especially focus on recent trends in the production of some specific crops and why the fruit and nut crop industries have gone through relatively rapid changes in the past 20 years. At the end of the class, we will have a Q&A session to discuss any questions the audience might have about growing fruit and nut trees around Davis.
