Chaucer's Carnival - The Pilgrims in Society: Part 2

While the previous chapter of this class emphasized the individual characteristics of the 31 pilgrims on their way to Canterbury, this second part delves into their interaction, and especially their features as elements in Chaucer’s medieval world view. This includes an introduction to the tales each tells, often a reflection of the teller’s aspirations rather than a true indication of who they are, and, in certain cases, an attempt to deceive the other pilgrims about who they really are.
