Many films showcase the complexities and mutual fascination of Franco-American relationships. We continue this study by uncovering parallels in two legal dramas and two immigrant stories, one each from France and the U.S. In the American movie, Dark Waters (2019), a tenacious attorney takes on a global corporation. Saint Omer (2022) from France presents a case of infanticide which questions our capacity for judgment. The Good Lie (2014), a U.S. film, depicts the challenges faced by Sudanese “lost boys” emigrating to the U.S. assisted by an employment agent (Reese Witherspoon), while A Season in France (2017) explores the difficulties encountered by an asylum-seeking Central African teacher and his two children. Join us as we delve into the world of French and American cinematic representations.
