Exploring Japanese Gardens

This lecture will examine the key features of a Japanese Garden: water, plants, evergreens, moss and other seasonal accents. Unlike Western gardens that prioritize symmetry and floral display, Japanese gardens focus on asymmetry, symbolism and a deep reverence for the natural landscape. We will cover several types of Japanese gardens: Stroll Gardens (Chisen kaiyushiki teien), Tea Gardens (Chaniwa) and Dry Gardens (Karesansui).
