COURSE DESCRIPTION: The tumultuous years of the Civil War era were times that tried women’s souls. Two strong women, Mary Lincoln and Eliza Johnson, brought very different strengths, energies and ambitions to the White House. America’s first ladies are not elected yet they play significant roles of great influence during their time in the White House. Using photographs, stories and discussion, we’ll explore their lives and legacies.
