The Gospel of John was written when there was a growing animosity between members of the Synagogue and the Johannine community. Tragically, some of the sayings about "the Jews" in the gospel have been used to support anti-Judaism in Western history. The class will interpret those controversial passages, and explore their historical and cultural context.
