This course will begin with a look at The Early Republic. Our identity as one nation is fragile today, much as it was when the Civil War erupted in 1861. Today, we continue to face the problems of our heritage, especially racial prejudice, born out of historical experience. Perhaps we can learn from that history and find ways to work together for the common good, which is the intent of this course. This quarter, we will focus on the common bonds that helped create one American nation.
