Listening to music, many of us find ourselves attracted to certain artists and not others. This class will focus on artists who may have a limited following, thereby providing the potential experience of suddenly discovering some great music. In session one, we’ll be exploring the music of two bands that have been successful for decades, and yet remain unknown to many. We’ll listen to and discuss several songs from Crowded House, a rock band with roots in New Zealand and Australia. Then we’ll listen to songs from Dispatch, a band based in Boston. Both have been critically acclaimed. In session two, we’ll survey single songs of undiscovered artists. Class participation is encouraged. Discussing what attracts us to music may help all of us discover new and emotionally touching songs.
