Introduction to the Quantum World

The theory of quantum mechanics was developed more 90 years ago and is one of the greatest achievements of modern science. This theory is directly responsible for the incredible technological revolution that we are experiencing in modern times. However, quantum mechanics is steeped in mysterious equations and abstract concepts that are opaque and difficult to interpret. This course will present an introduction to the quantum world that does not require any math or previous knowledge of physics. The course will cover the history of why scientists were led to throw out classical physics and adopt the revolutionary ideas of quantum physics, what “quantum” really means, the revolutionary ideas behind Schrodinger’s Cat and what quantum technology may mean for the future.
