Arguably, the Orient Express is the most famous train in the world. It is not often that one is able to travel in such a fashion and check an item off his or her bucket list. The coaches are a masterpiece of Art Deco design and engineering, including marquetry panels and Lladro glass. This presentation will consist of photos and a short video taken by the presenter, plus memorabilia from the train itself such as menus, luggage tags, etc., from both the Express and the Belmond Pullman—the sister train used in the Harry Potter films. By way of introduction in session one, we will also view Sidney Lumet’s brilliant 1974 film, Murder on the Orient Express, one of the few films given Agatha Christie’s personal blessing and approval.
