We live in a nation that is part Jeffersonian and part Hamiltonian. From the aristocratic Jefferson we cherish liberty, equality, democracy and the importance of the ability of the average person to fully participate in government. Hamilton’s vision for the American economy was one of capitalism, and he did much to lay the foundation for it. In this course, we will explore the differences between these two giants of the founding generation and how this led to the birth of the American two-party system.
