Yes, Virginia, there is a sub-genre of comedies within Noir and Neo-Noir films, based usually on parodies of the detective film (think Sam Spade in The Maltese Falcon) or hilarious, dark take-offs on the basic plot line of innocence against evil. Although difficult to choose only four films to represent the many titles available, we will screen for your enjoyment and discussion, Dead Men Don’t Wear Plaid (1982), starring Steve Martin; 2 Days in the Valley (1996), among many delights, it includes Charlize Theron in an early supporting role; Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (2005), starring Val Kilmer and Robert Downey, Jr.; and, confirming international participation, a French film, The Trouble with You (original title: En liberte!) (2018), with the popular Audrey Tautou. Chaotic fun ahead!
