Liberalism

This class will explore the connection between liberalism and liberty. The concept of liberty arguably is essentially a negative one of being unconstrained. Now if this concept defines liberalism, what assumptions underlie it and what are its political ramifications? Also, is there another concept of liberty that might define liberalism differently? And once we acknowledge more than one concept of liberty we may have to reassess the relationship of liberalism to other isms, such as radicalism and conservatism, socialism and capitalism, majoritarianism and constitutionalism.
