Masters of Horror: Mary Shelley, Bram Stoker, Edgar Allan Poe and H.P. Lovecraft

Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, Bram Stoker’s Dracula, and the short stories and novels of Edgar Allan Poe and H.P. Lovecraft have defined horror since they were first published. In this class, we’ll talk about these authors, the cultural contexts in which they wrote, and the ways in which their stories continue to define culture. Come prepared for story time, scandal and a conversation that includes everything from Victorian attitudes towards immigration to the Twilight phenomenon.
