Seniors and the broader society are understandably concerned when older adults are the victims of scams by unscrupulous retailers and charities. But consumer behavior studies have concluded it’s a myth that the overall frequency of falling for scams is greater among the elderly than among younger consumers. In this class, we’ll explore the basis for that myth as well as how seniors can correct for the myths they tell themselves which make it more likely they will, in fact, be scammed. We’ll try out and discuss activities researchers used in these studies on seniors.
