Nā Pua O Hawai'i: Flowers and Lei In Hawaiian Song

This course surveys the botanical beauty of Hawai‘i as represented in songs that celebrate flowers and lei. The curriculum will explore the many cultural meanings and uses of flowers and lei in Hawai‘i, and select songs will be played during lecture. Participants will have a chance to try their hand at making two types of lei at the end of the course. Timing is just right for celebrating Lei Day (May 1) and Mother’s Day (May 10). Attendance at Beth Post’s previous courses in Hawaiian music is not required to attend.
