Nuclear weapons arsenals have surfaced beyond the original Big Five Powers (US, Soviet Union, UK, France, China) to include (likely) Israel, India, Pakistan and North Korea, with others poised to join the group. We will explore an overview of the technology that underpins nuclear weapons and illustrate why even countries not as technologically savvy as the Big Five Powers can somehow join the club. What safeguards are in place to promote non-proliferation and what might we do diplomatically and covertly to curb proliferation?
