Modern human genetics and genomics are revolutionizing biology, medicine and society. Genomic technology is now advancing faster than computer technology. In many cases, our ability to collect the information outstrips our ability to understand what it means. The day is rapidly approaching when individuals will be able to obtain their entire personal genetic sequence. Is society ready? This seminar is intended to provide an overview of the human genome, how genomic information is obtained and what it can tell us about our family origins, our susceptibility to disease, who we are, and how it impacts medical treatment and public health.
