Physics: The Science of Cold Electrons

This course will provide an overview of some of the fascinating behavior of matter at cryogenic temperatures. Phenomena such as superconductivity and magnetism have fascinated condensed matter physicists for decades, and hold tremendous potential for novel applications. We will discuss both the current ideas regarding the possible origins of some of this behavior, as well as some of the cutting edge techniques being developed to probe these systems from crystal synthesis to high magnetic fields.
