Real to Reel: Cinema and the 19th-Century World

Film is a common way audiences encounter history yet often dismissed as entertainment. Many films blend storytelling with cultural and political insight. This course examines four films—The French Can Can, Harriet, Tesla and Samurai in Time—to explore the 19th-century’s social struggles, technological change and lasting impact on the modern world.
