Although German language cinema may have a reputation for Sturm und Drang, many recent films are more accessible and entertaining. The films in this series are from Austria, Germany and Switzerland: Nowhere in Africa—winner of the 2001 Academy Award for Best Foreign Film—tells the story of a Jewish family migrating to Kenya in 1938; Mostly Martha, a romantic comedy concerning a chef; The Counterfeiters—winner of the 2007 Academy Award for Best Foreign Film—about a group of concentration camp inmates who facilitate a Nazi scheme to destabilize the UK; and Vitus, a whimsical film about a piano prodigy.
Note: Films will be in German with English subtitles.
