We will continue our fall quarter foray into some of the best contemporary film depictions of print and broadcast journalism: Shattered Glass (2003), Good Night and Good Luck (2005), Spotlight (2015), and The Post (2017). These films masterfully create character studies of newsmakers. Historic context will be provided prior to each film. Class discussion will give OLLI members a chance to critique each film’s narrative style, pacing, cinematic technique and authenticity. Watch Edward R. Murrow smoke on the air and see for yourself why you should never get rid of an old telephone directory!
