Three Plays by Tennessee Williams

The class will read and discuss three plays by Tennessee Williams: The Glass Menagerie, A Streetcar Named Desire and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, focusing on Williams’ continuing themes–his sympathy for the abused underdog and his love of illusion (maybe delusion?), his deft characterizations and his social criticism. As usual, we’ll progress through the plays scene by scene. In addition, the class is invited to enroll in Rene Viargues’ movie course featuring the same three Williams plays in movie format on Fridays preceding this course. Both instructors will attend the courses to aid in discussions.
