Translating Experiences into Competencies

Translating Experiences into Competencies course prepares students to interpret and demonstrate competencies expected for entry into health professions programs, including medicine, dentistry, physician assistant, and nursing. Students learn to recognize competency language, connect experiences to competencies, and communicate their development clearly and effectively. Through structured reflection, case analysis, and engagement with professionals, students build a Competency Evidence Portfolio, conduct an informational interview, and develop a Competency Growth Plan. Emphasis is placed on making experiences visible through specific behavior, responding to challenges, and communicating clearly in application and professional contexts.
