Tour the historic United States Naval Ship, the USS Hornet aircraft carrier, berthed at Alameda. Commissioned in 1943, this historic ship protected and served our nation during World War II, Vietnam, and various Apollo moon missions. Come explore the immensity of this historic aircraft carrier and discover a great national treasure. A three-hour, docent-led tour will showcase many facets of the USS Hornet, including the navigation bridge, engine room, torpedo room, an Apollo capsule and various aircraft that operated from the decks of the USS Hornet. Note: Bus trip to Alameda. Meet at UC Davis Extension, 1333 Research Park Dr., Parking Lot 81, to board the bus at 8:15 a.m. Participants must be able to get on the bus on their own and be able to walk around the ship unassisted, which may include vertical steel stairs and uneven surfaces. Wear comfortable shoes and dress in layers dependent on weather. Bus returns to Davis at approximately 4:30 p.m. The price of the course includes the bus trip, docent tour, lunch, and the entrance fee. Registration required by May 4. Limited enrollment.
