Applications Open for UC Davis CPE “Build Your Own Career” Scholarship

New need-based program helps adult learners upskill, reskill or change careers

UC Davis Continuing and Professional Education (CPE) is accepting applications for its new “Build Your Own Career” Scholarship, a program aimed at expanding access to CPE’s career enhancing programs. The scholarship, which is accepting applications through May 31, 2023, is funded by CPE’s Dean’s Innovation Fund.

“Professional education creates opportunity,” said CPE Dean Susan Catron. “Unfortunately, these kinds of applied, career-focused programs and certificates aren’t eligible for financial aid so students must self-fund their education. The Build Your Own Career Scholarship helps ensure that all adults, regardless of socioeconomic status, have access to life-changing professional development opportunities.”

Programs eligible for the scholarship span CPE’s online portfolio and reflect the high demand job skills taught by the organization. These include Accounting, Professional Coaching, Land Use and Environmental Planning, UC Davis Executive Leadership Program, Cell and Gene Therapy Manufacturing, Python for Data Science and many more. Applications for the first-ever scholarship award are open now through May 31. Prospective students can learn more, view CPE programs that qualify for the scholarship and apply online.

The Build Your Own Career Scholarship adds to the list of other CPE scholarship opportunities, including the Tapping Potential Fund, which provides diversity-focused, full scholarships to the online UC Davis Master Brewers Certificate Program, and a forthcoming DEI-based Winemaking scholarship. Collectively, these programs address CPE’s access mission and align with the division’s diversity, equity and inclusion plan.

For more than 60 years, CPE has blended the distinctive academic expertise of UC Davis with practical training that immediately improves capability and job performance. This “Career Curriculum” supports working professionals as they refresh and expand job skills over the course of their careers.

With 48,000 annual enrollments in professional, academic and enrichment courses and more than 3 million enrollments on Coursera, CPE serves lifelong learners in the growing Sacramento region, all 50 states and more than 100 countries.
