UC Davis Master Brewers Alum Wins 2022 Brewery of the Year at New York State Beer Competition

Micah Krichinsky, founder and brewer of Strangebird Brewery, which opened in 2021, won the 2022 Brewery of the Year at the New York State Craft Beer Competition.

In addition to winning Brewery of the Year, Strangebird also took home several individual medals for beers in a variety of categories, including:

  • Imperial Stouts and Porters: Breakfast Bear Fight (Gold)
  • Amber and Dark Lagers: The Western (Bronze)
  • Belgian Farmhouse: New York Artisnal Harvest (Bronze)
  • Experimental: Polewnik (Bronze)
  • Best Collaboration Beer: NY Artisnal Harvest Saison (with Steuben Brewing)

“This was an amazing accomplishment in our first year in operation,” said Krichinsky.“ I graduated from the UC Davis Master Brewers Program in 2012. It was truly a formative experience for me. My time at UC Davis helped prepare me for my role as head brewer and owner at Strangebird. I would not have realized this success without the Master Brewers Program.”
