Dangerous Liaisons

Online
Dangerous Liaisons (1782) follows a circle of aristocratic libertines who manipulate, seduce and destroy through romantic conquest and social intrigue. Adapted into the acclaimed 1988 film starring John Malkovich, Glenn Close and Michelle Pfeiffer, as well as the 1999 teen drama Cruel Intentions, the novel offers a sharp exploration of power, desire and manipulation in pre-Revolutionary France. This course will examine the social politics of libertinage and the enduring appeal of this provocative classic.
