The Devil's Gate Wildlands: A Perspective from UC's Cahill Riparian Reserve

Explore a hidden ecological gem where the Inner Coast Range meets the Central Valley. This guided hike, led by UC Natural Reserve System staff and Solano County Water Agency’s Rich Marovich, features blue oak savannah and panoramic views of the Putah Creek floodplain habitat. The hiking distance adjusts from 0.25 to 1.2 miles with about 145 feet of elevation gain.

Section Notes

This course is scheduled to take place in-person at the UC Cahill Reserve just west of Winters. Driving directions and a parking map will be sent the week prior to class. 

Students are advised to bring snacks and water, and be prepared to walk unassisted on rough, uneven trailheads. OLLI recommends dressing in layers to suit individual comfort levels and weather, bringing a hat, sunglasses, binoculars and camera. Wear sturdy, appropriate hiking or athletic shoes with good traction.

Course enrollments close on October 20. Field trip fees are non-refundable after enrollment. If OLLI cancels a field trip, participants will receive a full refund. OLLI memberships are non-refundable and non-transferable.
