Designed for planners, developers, architects and engineers, this course explores California's housing crisis and the policies, programs and funding strategies used to expand affordable housing opportunities.

Through lectures and discussion, you'll examine the historical housing policies that shaped today's housing landscape, learn how affordability is defined across income levels and housing types, and explore affordable housing development, financing and homelessness response strategies. You'll also examine the continuum of housing, services and shelter that supports individuals experiencing homelessness.

By the end of the course, you'll understand the policy and planning factors influencing California's housing challenges and be better prepared to evaluate affordable housing solutions.

Course Format and Pacing
This five-day online course includes one (1) mandatory, live, instructor-led Zoom session. Students will access the program through Canvas, UC Davis CPE’s learning management system. Active engagement and participation are essential to fully benefit from the course and achieve the best learning outcomes.
