Viticulture Certificate Program

In-Depth Viticulture Knowledge for Wine Grape Production

The wine industry is a huge part of the California agriculture sector.  It is also an increasingly important factor in economies across the US and the world.  (There are now multiple wineries in all 50 states.)  At UC Davis, we are fortunate to have tremendous viticultural technical expertise available through the Viticulture and Enology Department as well as the UC Cooperative Extension Farm Advisors that provide assistance to growers throughout the state. The CPE Wine Certificate Program has been a successful program for many years focusing on wine production.  Because quality wine grapes are at the heart of quality wines, we believe that a similar viticulture program that focuses on commercial wine grape production is a natural extension.  This was supported by a market research survey of prospective students where there was great interest in a more in-depth program than is currently presented in our CPE vineyard short courses.  The program consists of four quarter-long courses delivered asynchronously in a fully remote modality.   It will provide technical knowledge and practical application for current and aspiring vineyard managers and workers, as well as other wine professionals that desire more information about quality winegrape growing.  While the program will be focused on the large California winegrape industry, the content will be made applicable to other US wine growing regions and around the world.
