Student Coach and Volunteer Client Agreement

Coaches partner with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires clients to maximize their personal and professional potential. Individuals who engage in coaching relationships can expect to experience fresh perspectives on personal challenges and opportunities, enhance their thinking and decision-making skills, improve interpersonal effectiveness, and increase confidence in carrying out their chosen work and life roles.
By submitting this agreement, you are opting to participate as a Volunteer Client, defined as a recipient of coaching services from a Student Coach-in-training, at no cost to yourself. If selected, you will be assigned a Student Coach, defined as a learner currently enrolled in the UC Davis’ Professional Coaching for Life and Work Certificate Program. Thank you for being a part of this program. Your Student Coach is excited to work with you. The Student Coach commits his or her time to offer you coaching at no cost, in support of their learning and professional training. As a Volunteer Client, we hope you will receive great benefit from working with your coach-in-training as so many have in the past.
Oversight for your Student Coach will be provided by a Supervising Instructor of the Professional Coaching for Life and Work Certificate Program.   The Instructor’s contact information is listed below.

Coaching Agreement:
This agreement defines the responsibilities between UC Davis Continuing and Professional Education – representing its employees there in, the Student Coach – a learner to be assigned and supervised by UC Davis CPE instructors, and the Volunteer Client – the individual applying for free coaching services and signee below. The agreement effective date occurs upon initiation of the first email contact from the Student Coach to the Volunteer Client, introducing themselves.  The coaching package is comprised of up-to 6 hours of meetings, which can be conducted in 30- or 60-minute sessions over the phone or on Zoom.  The coaching engagement, supervised by UC Davis CPE, is complete after 6 hours of coaching or upon conclusion of the Student Coach’s participation in the Professional Coaching for Life and Work Program, whichever comes first. Additional coaching after the program end is not supported by this agreement.

Services:
The services to be provided by the Student Coach to the Volunteer Client are conducted over ZOOM or phone and, in some cases, email. The sessions may address specific personal projects, business successes, or general conditions in the client’s life or profession.   Throughout the working relationship, the Student Coach will engage in direct and personal conversations to support the Volunteer Client’s desired outcomes for the session and engagement.  Coaching service action plans created in the context of the coaching are solely the Volunteer Client’s responsibility.  Coaching is a partnership for the client’s success; the client remains 100% responsible for their decisions, actions, and outcomes. Coaching is not advice, therapy, or counseling.  It is not to be construed as, or used as replacement for management consulting, financial advice, legal counsel, medical advice, psychotherapy or, divine wisdom.

Volunteer Client Responsibilities:
In order to participate in the program, Volunteer Clients must be on time for scheduled sessions. If late and/or absent from 2 scheduled sessions, the result is automatic termination from the coaching engagement. 24 hours’ notice is required to reschedule sessions.

So that the Supervising Instructor may provide feedback to the Student Coach for development and growth, the Volunteer Client is encouraged to give permission for the sessions to be recorded. This is not mandatory and the Volunteer Client’s decision may change from session to session.

The Volunteer Client may be asked to complete a survey providing feedback to the Student Coach at the end of the program.

Liability:
Neither party will be liable to the other for special, indirect or consequential damages incurred or suffered by the other arising as a result of or related to the Volunteer Client’s participation, whether in contract, tort, or otherwise, even if the other has been advised of the possibility of such loss or damages. The Volunteer Client will indemnify and hold UC Davis CPE and the Student Coach harmless against any claims incurred by UC Davis CPE or the Student Coach arising out of or in conjunction with the Volunteer Client’s participation in or breach of this Agreement, as well as all costs, expenses and attorneys' fees incurred therein.

Confidentiality
All information provided to the Student Coach will be kept strictly confidential up to the extent the law will allow with following exceptions as necessary;
  1. for consultation with the Supervising Instructor as part of the learning process.

  2. if the information is, illegal, or indicates situations suggesting danger to one-self or others, the client and/or appropriate support service organizations will be contacted. This can include, but is not limited to, contacting 911 or suicide prevention services. This may be done with or without the Volunteer Client’s consent
If the Volunteer Client believes the coaching partnership is not working as desired, they will communicate that belief to the Student Coach or the Supervising Instructor.

If the Student Coach feels that the coaching partnership is not working or that coaching is not the right type of support service for the Volunteer Client, the Student Coach or Supervising Instructor will contact the Volunteer Client.
