Montessori Early Childhood Curriculum II

The Montessori Early Childhood Curriculum II course is a 5-month, in-person course designed to introduce four subject areas of Montessori curricula: literacy, math, social studies, and science. This includes the science of reading and using the critical literary lens approach, operations and algebraic thinking, the philosophy and rationale of Maria Montessori’s Cosmic Education, lessons in biology, the hard sciences, and more. 

The course consists of 120 hours of instruction with learners expected to complete a series of teaching albums, portfolios, and presentations showing their ability to create a collection of learning activities and rationale for each subject area.

Course Objectives:

  • Describe the purpose and importance of language & literacy, math, social studies, and science for the young child.
  • Demonstrate each learning activity successfully.
  • Create a collection of inquiry units.
  • Explain the aims and rationale for each activity, including knowledge of scope and sequence.
  • Relate the developmental level of the child to each piece of learning material.
