Foundations of Successful Project Management

Project management is a high-value skill that is in demand across all industries. This course is designed for anyone interested in learning the foundational skills of project management. This may include current project coordinators, business analysts, or anyone who finds themselves overseeing special assignments in their daily work. Through pre-recorded lectures and interactive, instructor-led webinar sessions, this course lays the foundation for creating a project plan, work breakdown structure (WBS), schedule, budget and communication plan. Learners will also practice resource management, identifying and managing risk, and understanding the project quality and procurement processes. Course curriculum is based on the project lifecycles, standards and methodologies developed by the Project Management Institute (PMI®). At the end of this course, students will understand the core fundamentals of project management from project initiation to project scope.

This course will run from April 5 to June 20, 2021. This is an online course with class materials that can be accessed throughout the week. The course is structured to move from one week to the next.

Students will receive an email with login information to access the course on the first day of class, April 5.

Certificate Students: Students must earn a grade of C or higher (not a C minus) in order for this course to count towards the requirements for the Project Management Certificate. Courses applied towards the Project Management Certificate must be completed within five years.

Prerequisites

None, however, it is highly recommended that students take this course prior to taking additional courses in the six-course UC Davis Continuing and Professional Education Project Management Certificate program.

All elements of this class will be conducted online. Students must have a computer with access to the internet and an email account in order to complete this course.
