Overview of California Environmental Regulations
The web of environmental laws and regulations in California is famously complex and ever evolving. Gain a comprehensive overview of the California regulatory landscape and learn how to navigate the key legal and regulatory requirements for implementing your projects. This online course provides a practical understanding of federal, state and local environmental laws and regulations and how these requirements interact throughout the project development stage. Through pre-recorded lectures and live instruction, you’ll cover the regulatory process from site identification to implementation, including entitlements and construction, and explore potential compliance challenges through a discussion of case studies. By the end of this course, you will have gained an understanding of the relationships between various environmental process requirements, become familiar with key agencies, and learned how to anticipate potential challenges and identify strategies for overcoming process hurdles.
This course is designed for environmental planners and managers, engineers and operations professionals in public works or similar roles, and other professionals in land and infrastructure management, real estate development and environmental management.

Course Format and Pacing
This is an online remote learning course delivered through UC Davis CPE’s learning management system, Canvas, with supplemental live sessions hosted on Zoom. The course consists of approximately 6.5 hours of content, combining pre-recorded lectures with a mandatory live Zoom session led by the instructor(s).
