Phil Hess is currently employed as a criminalist IV for the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Laboratory of Forensic Services where he has been continually employed for over 20 years. He is the technical lead for the Firearms and Toolmarks Unit, Impressions (Footwear and Tire Tracks) Unit and the Crime Scene Response Team.
He has extensive experience teaching law enforcement officers and forensic scientists from around the world, including students at UC Davis. In the Forensic Science Graduate Program, he teaches the Advanced Homicide Investigation and Forensic Photography courses as well as providing instruction in microscopy and trace analysis.
