Get “up close and personal” with the complexities of fighting wildfires as we visit the CAL FIRE academy in Ione, Calif. Daily training drills change throughout the year depending on how many wildfires are being fought across the state. We expect to observe live fire drills, demonstrations of various equipment used to combat fire and tour the grounds with professionals who will share insights from their careers in managing fires throughout California. A barbecue lunch will be offered by the CAL FIRE staff and is an additional $7, payable to CAL FIRE at the time of service.
Note: The tour will include periods of prolonged walking and standing for discussion. Wear comfortable and sturdy footwear, suitable for walking on uneven surfaces. Those with accessibility and mobility concerns are encouraged to contact OLLI staff with questions at (530) 752-9695.
