Global Cultures in Cinema

Examine the cultural dimensions and spirituality of movies from around the world. We will analyze films by interpreting the cinematic elements of character, dialogue, gender, image, mise en scène, lighting and music, while identifying cultural perceptions and the significance of each represented way of life. Group discussion will follow each film. Films to be shown include: Perfect Days (Germany and Japan) - Whale Rider (New Zealand) - Kundun (USA and Tibet) and Rivers and Tides (Scotland)
