The Lubitsch Touch

One of the more important directors in Hollywood and world cinema history is Ernest Lubitsch (1892-1947). Born in Berlin, he was an extraordinary German filmmaker. Moving to Hollywood in 1922, he became the most respected European director for his individual high-comedy style, the essence of sophistication, wit and elegance. We will view four of his later classics. Films to be shown include: Trouble in Paradise (1932) - Design for Living (1933) - The Shop Around the Corner (1940) and To Be or Not to Be (1942) featuring Jack Benny and Carol Lombard playing serious roles.
