An organization’s effectiveness is directly related to the caliber of its employees. Poor hiring decisions result in costly and time consuming problems related to performance management, employee relations, and productivity issues. Examine how to meet the challenge of hiring quality individuals with relevant background and experience, as well as how to source, recruit, and onboard employees for your organization.

This course will introduce you to strategies and practices for successful recruitment and selection as well as the legal requirements with which you must comply. Topics include job analysis, developing marketable job postings, recruitment and selection, onboarding, developing Talent Brand, behavioral interviewing, candidate assessment, background investigations, recruitment technologies, legislative compliance, equal employment opportunity and affirmative action requirements. You will gain hand-on experience using various recruiting tools and industry leading technologies.

  • Identify the relationship of Talent Acquisition to the Human Resources function.
  • Analyze a variety of job descriptions and create recruiting narratives.
  • Create and conduct behavioral interviews.
  • Compare and contrast the types of recruiting strategies.
  • Develop a sourcing plan for specific jobs, including creative posting text.
  • Demonstrate the ability to develop search criteria and locate candidates using a variety of tools and techniques.

Section Notes

This is an online course with live class sessions over Zoom every Tuesday evening at 6pm-9pm (PT) from January 14, 2025- March 18, 2025. The final day of the course is March 24, 2025.

Please check your computer readiness for Zoom by conducting a Test Meeting at https://zoom.us/test. A strong internet connection and head phones with microphone are required. 

Students will receive an email with login information to access the course one business day before the first day of class. 

Certificate Students: Students must earn a grade of C or higher (not a C minus) in order for this course to count towards the requirements for the certificate. A "C-" will not count as a passing grade for the purpose of the certificate. Coursework towards the certificate must be completed within five years.

Drop requests (withdraw with a refund) will be approved, less a $30 processing fee, if the request is received by 1/28/2025. Refunds and/or enrollment transfers will not be approved after this date.

This is a "Online Classroom" format course- all instruction occurs face-to-face via Zoom online classroom. Technology is used to facilitate online activities, assess students (assignments, exams, etc.), or deliver content.
